It is the communal area however that is awkwardly laid out meaning that everyone is huddled in one corner whilst the vast majority of the space is unused. With all the reviews about a single coffee maker for 26 people its surprising that the company has not invested in a second one!
The rooms are basic which is to be expected and watch out if you are over 6ft as the beds are a little short. Food was plentiful and was well received in the main. A great effort to try and please everyone and the team tries very hard. Very close to the local Intersport for ski rental and the nightlife, what little there is, is only a short walk.
Hopefully they have managed to sort out the WIFI as it wasn't working during our stay. We're sorry to learn that the layout of the chalet lounge was not to your liking. However, we're pleased that you appreciated the chalet's location and the service and food provided by our staff. Thank you for your feedback. We stayed in chalet Alaska last week and the staff, food and standard of service were just great! Thank you Jonny, Rosie and Abbie! Some of the rooms are smaller than lead to believe in the details of the chalet BUT in our experience chalet staff can make or break a good holiday.
The wifi was a bit intermitant but nobody stressed about it because they enjoyed the ski-ing and the company instead! We're flattered to be rated as one of the best catered chalet holidays you have had, aided by our hosts' hospitality-thank you very much! At the risk of repeating myself, I will never travel with Ski Total again. No reputable company would encourage or allow or be unaware that their staff lie over and over again to their customers.
Ski Total did just that. If you have booked the Chalet Alaska with Ski Total, do not have high expectations.

The tiny room with very limited storage did not bother us too much as I suppose this is the norm with ski chalets in France. In fairness, when we complained about it, they had it cleared. High up on our list of requirements when booking a ski -chalet, apart from location, is the availability of Wi-Fi. When we arrived on Sunday we were told that the Wi-Fi was not working and the engineers did not work over the weekend in France so it would be fixed on the Monday.
I thought this sounded a bit strange but accepted what they said. On Tuesday afternoon it was still not working so I had a look at the router box and noticed that the telephone light on the box was flashing amber it should be glowing green and spoke to Freya the rep.
I told her that I thought that there was no telephone line coming into the chalet, so the Wi-Fi could not work. Freya then admitted different to not working that there was a dispute over the bill read: it had not been paid and that was the reason that the Wi-Fi was not working but it was in hand. I said nothing more until Thursday and was then told that the bill had been paid but it would take seventy two hours for the Wi-Fi to be connected again. The arrogance of the company is breath-taking. They think that they can just say anything to their they believe brainless clients and it will be accepted.
The Chalet Alaska itself is fairly average.
The food is just okay and I suppose that Johnny the chef does his best, although the afternoon cake is very good. I would not give him any marks for continuing to serve other guests uncooked potatoes after I had pointed out to him- we were served first - that the potatoes were raw. Again, another example of arrogance. If he had stopped serving them when I told him the potatoes were raw he would not have had to apologise later. The wine was plentiful and okay. Do not expect the Ski Total rep to tell you anything useful. They will tell you about husky rides to bring in more money for Ski Total but they will not tell you about the short cut to the piste, which I will do so now.
Assuming that you are not a complete beginner turn right at the top of the stairs leading to the chalet and walk up the hill a couple of hundred yards until you come to The Montana Hotel. To the left of the front door of the Montana there is an opening. Put your skis on and ski across the track and around to the right of the building in front and this will bring you to the main square in Tignes and the Toviere and Palafour lifts.
You can return this way as well, having taken the button lift behind the Palafour. We enjoyed skiing in Tignes as it is a great resort. I give Chalet Alaska one star and that is only for the afternoon cake.
